Thursday kicked off fashion week with Fashion's Night Out, in which a lot of major retailers and high end stores are open late and throw parties, give out goodies, and have celebrity guest appearances. Friday started the Spring 2012 collection runway shows held in Lincoln Center for names like Nicole Miller, Peter Som, Cynthia Rowley, and Jason Wu. Shows will be running all this weekend and next week for most big name New York designers. Even though runway shows are usually invite only and I unfortunately can't go to any of them it's still very exciting to be in NYC during fashion week.
My favorite collection so far would have to be Jason Wu's sexy, flirty and fun yet sophisticated spring collection. Emphasizing classic silhouettes with an array of high waisted hot pants, flouncy dresses cinched at the waist, asymmetrical skirts and separates featuring peplums (which I am soooooo in love with). The collection is done in an array of soft pinks, neon greens, vibrant blues and shades of black using soft chiffons and luxurious satins. The common print he used in this collection includes shapes that look like leaves done in a beautiful gradient and strategically placed in the pieces that featured this print, making it look like falling leaves on the garment; such a beautiful effect. Overall, I am just so in love with this entire collection and think the best word to describe Jason's creations is "pretty", and everyone knows I am a sucker for pretty. I can't wait to see what else this fashion week is going to unfold :)
